Grand Mesa Trail Construction Project
Location: Mesa Top Trail
Date: July 14, 2012
There is no experience necessary. All tools and crew leaders will be provided by COPMOBA. We will be working in rocky areas so wear sturdy shoes, gloves, eye protection and long pants or shin guards. We will be away from the parking area for 4-5 hours so pack some water, lunch, sunscreen, insect repellant and extra clothing. We will be shuttling to the work site in vehicles or you can ride your bike 3 miles on the new trail and meet us there. There will be a BBQ sponsored by Antonelli's Advanced Automotive and hosted by Doug Killerud and his family when we return to the trailhead. There could even be some door prizes. So escape the heat for a day and be a part of what is sure to become an amazing trail system.
We will meet at the Mesa Top trailhead between 8:30-9:00. From Grand Junction take I-70 east and then Exit #49. Stay on Highway 65 for 31 miles and look for the Mesa Top Trailhead just past the Lands End Road intersection.
There will be a camp out, possibly breakfast (Doug's World Famous Pancakes) and a ride the next day if you are interested. Call 970-270-8575 for information on this or any other part of the project.
Please RSVP via COPMOBA's Facebook page, COPMOBA's email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Dan at 970-270-8575 so we know how many tools and how much food to bring.
Hope to see you there!
Buzzard Gulch Clean-Up Wrap-Up!Volunteers were greeted with sunny skies and mild temperatures for the second annual Buzzard Gulch trail day. The Spring Canyon trailhead was abuzz with people arriving to spend a few hours helping clean up our public lands. Hikers and mountain bikers numbering 32 joined forces to haul out trash that became scattered from early-day dumpsites.
When the Dry Creek Travel Plan was implemented a few years ago a narrow strip of land between Dave Wood Road and Spring Creek Canyon was designated as non-motorized. 6 miles of two track could now be rehabilitated to create singletrack. In addition, another 2 miles of trail is proposed to get around private property and extend dead end routes to create loops. What had been an area that really didn’t appeal to hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers now had all kinds of potential.
All the details of the clean-up!
